Božo Podunavac 2011 B-75 12 String Bell Westeren Cutaway

Božo Podunavac 2011. B-75 12 String Bell Westeren Cutaway in Vintage Natural Finish.

In 2011 Božo again partnered with an Asian manufacturer to build guitars under the Božo name.

This time, he looked to China, and even though the guitars show excellent build quality and the price-point was reasonable, these guitars were still slow to sell.

Ultimately, only 29 were ever made.

This 2011 Božo Bell Westeren B-75 12-String is one of the 29 Božo-licensed Chinese-made guitars.

#12NOEQ-2011.

Made in China.

Božo Podunavac (1928-2015)

was a Serbian-born luthier who immigrated to the U.S. in 1959. Božo was raised in Belgrade, Yugoslavia and worked as a toolmaker before taking on a five year apprenticeship under leading Yugoslavian luthier, Milutin Miadenovic. Podunavac moved to Chicago, where he started working in the repair department of various musical instrument dealers and manufacturers as well as for the Chicago Symphony Orchestra.

In 1964 Božo opened his own shop and began building guitars with his name “BOŽO” on the peghead. Podunavac apprenticed in the old world tradition of his homeland, and relished in building highly ornate instruments. Božo left the Chicago area in the mid 70’s and moved to Southern California and opened up his own shop in San Diego along with a school of lutherie.

Bozo Podunavac made his name in the industry the good old fashion way with tone. He built guitars for Leo Kottke, Reverend Gary Davis, Peter Lang, Bob Gibson and many more.

Due to some health problems, he moved to Florida where he continued to offer his services there until his passing in 2015 R.I.P.
