Prototype Body painted by the original Bowling Ball Swirl Artist, Darren Johansen.
Set with a Custom Shop 2001 Birdseye Maple Neck and Fretboard.
In 1987 an attempt was made to resurrect the Bowling Ball Strat, however Fender dealers were underwhelmed and the project did not go forward.
There were approximately 20 bodies produced as prototypes. Fender sold these to their employees."
Basically, after the initial run of Bowling Balls in 1984, Fender contacted the original artist to do another 20 in 1987. He agreed, delivered them to Fender. Fender scrapped the idea, and sold them to Employees...This is one of those 20.
